HL7 message and modality worklist
Hi,
I want to know what exactly modality worklist is, I've read the user manual but couldn't really get it. does it has anything to do with HL7 messages, if yes then can anyone here tell me the abstract of it and how to configure it for HL7 messages. what I assume is that its mainly related to dicom [correct me if i'm wrong].

pacsone wrote:Yes, your assumption is correct as the Dicom Modality Worklist (DMWL) is service class for the input modalities which do not support HL7 interface for retrieving worklist data from RIS/HIS systems.
How can I create a Dicom Modality Worklist (DMWL) item ?
I must create dmwl item in to pacs database ? like this:
INSERT INTO worklist(..,..,..) VALUES(..,...,..); ???
I have RIS system, and I want send hl7 message to pacsone, to create worklist item but I don't know how can I do this.
The HL7 interface of PacsOne Server is currently not a HL7 message broker, so it does not convert received HL7 messages into DMWL data as this functionality should be part of your RIS.
To add a DMWL record into PacsOne Server, you can either have PacsOne Server query a remote DMWL server, or enter a DMWL record manually from the Modality Worklist->Enter Modality Worklist menu, or have PacsOne Server automatically scan a pre-designated folder for DMWL text files (which can be configured by the Administrator from the Configuration page).

More Information Please
We are currently using PacsOne Server at an outpatient facility. One PacsOne server with NAS, 3 eFilm workstations for viewing and 8 imaging modalities.
I don't have alot of experience with DMWL, so maybe you can help me understand this a little better.
In reading the manual, I am unclear about the DMWL function in PacsOne. Also, in experimenting, I am unable to answer this question:
After entering a patient into the DMWL, is it possible to later retrieve that same patient using only the patient ID (or other information) so as to eliminate the possibility of data entry error? This function seems elementary to DMWL, but I cannot find a way to retrieve a patient using only certain values (i.e. patient ID).
Any help is much appreciated.

One of the primary goals of DMWL is to eliminate the data entry errors by humans, so if you have entered (or imported/scanned) a worklist record into the PacsOne Server Dicom Modality Worklist table, you can retrieve it from any Dicom application that supports DMWL as a client. You can use the popular search keys such as Patient ID, Patient Name, DOB, etc, to query the DMWL records, exactly like you can query/retrieve the patients/studies from a Dicom client such as eFilm.
Okay. But, I guess I don't understand PACSONE's role in this. Is PACSONE just providing a table for patient data storage and organization? Or is PACSONE capable of creating a DMWL that can be used by the technologists at each modality?
And, in order to use the data that is entered in the PacsOne DMWL table, I'll need some other software application designed for this? I know that you do not like to make recommendations, but can you point me to a product that will work alongside PACSONE in this manner?
Thanks again,
H

There are actually multiple ways that you can input the DMWL data into PacsOne Server:
1. Enter the DMWL record directly from the Modality Worklist->Enter New Worklist menu.
2. Upload a worklist text file (with multiple DMWL records) from the Tools->Import Worklist menu.
3. Enable the Automatic Worklist Scan option in the Configuration page when logged-in as the Administrator, so that PacsOne Server will automatically scan any worklist text file deposited into the pre-configured auto-scan source directory, and import the DMWL records from the text files into the database.
For more information, please refer to Section 13.14.11 and Section 13.16 about importing DMWL records in the PacsOne Server Users' Manual:
