Assuming that the HL-7 interface is available in the next major release of PacsOne Server, what would be your most desired use-case which will improve your daily work flow?
This question is very important for us, because of the many RIS/HIS systems out there and the proprietary features of these systems. It is critical for us to understand the details of user requirements in order to make this feature useful for most PacsOne Server users.
Thanks in advance for your input here.
Desired Use-Case if HL-7 interface is available
The most important is:
- name (unicode) and demography bidirectional update (PACS to HIS/RIS and viceversa)
- study info using HL7 to DICOM MWL (RIS/HIS to modality)
- control of the workflow PACS to HL7 (study status control: submited, arrived, complete, dictated, etc).

Thanks, Diego, can you elaborate more on the above use-case?dgicovate wrote: - study info using HL7 to DICOM MWL (RIS/HIS to modality)
The current version (3.1.6) of PacsOne Server already supports Dicom MWL both as a SCU and SCP, which means PacsOne can query the RIS/HIS for DMWL and also services client requests for DMWL queries. But since this is mostly a function of the acquisition modalities, how do we make it more useful for PacsOne users?
Thanks, Jonathan, please see my reply to Diego above about how to make the DMWL feature more useful, as we need more detailed examples about the possible use-cases for this feature.Jonathan wrote:For us it is most important to be able to provide a DICOM Worklist to all our modalities in order to rule out name differences, spelling orders and so on.
HL7 messaging
Access to DICOM worklists via the RIS which is already in place is vital. I would also agree that bidirectional communication with the HIS/PAS is highly desirable.
It would be useful to extend the HL7 messaging capabilities to accommodate Order Communications systems. Also potentially blending some of the functionality of the RIS with PacsOne to create a seamless RIS/PACS system.
