The log is fine and logs the startup of MySQL and location of the socket.
MySQL does actually run (ps -ax | grep my).

There just are no mysql.sock in the designated directory for clients to connect to.
I tried to chmod 777 the whole directory. No luck.

My installation of Xampp shows MySQL as deactivated.
I did run the security check, and set a password for root.

I tried to launch MySQL from terminal, but it still won't start.
Someone suggested it might be permission-related.

Any advice there?

XAMPP is the way to go to install PacsOne with minimum fuss.
